After the loss of key seniors from an impressive 13-5 season, the LCDS boys tennis team has just begun its 2026 season with a younger roster, aiming to maintain its winning streak. Although the team has undergone significant changes to its roster in the past year, the athletes are excited and ready to tackle whatever challenges they may face in the new season.
This year, the team is following a commanding performance in the 2025 season, where they secured an undefeated 6-0 record in Section 3 of the L-L league for the fifth consecutive year. Additionally, they reached the semifinals in the L-L league Team Bracket, only losing to Manheim Township with a close 2-3 score.
A major challenge this year is the absence of key team members. The team lost two seniors, Michael G., an L-L all-star, section Three player of the year, and Ivan B., a Section Three all-star. Due to these losses, the 2026 team consists of many Freshman and new players.
When asked how the team will move forward, Tennis Coach Chris Wilson, now in his eighth season, said, “Every day our goal is just to improve, get better, make each other better… We need to do the small things, the little things, and grow each day to hopefully reach [our] goals”. The team and coach are feeling optimistic, even with the challenge of having many new players.
An astonishing five of the 13 members are new to the team this year. Providing his perspective on what it’s like to join the LCDS team for the first time, Freshman Quinn S. said that he is “enjoying the team as a whole.” He expressed that everyone on the team is very friendly, and that the group feels like a community.
Senior Gavin G., now in his fourth and final season, is also optimistic. When asked about how the team will be able to adapt with this new roster, he said, “We’ve worked really hard, so I think we’re going to be able to overcome [the challenge]”.
Sophomore Vincent P. said he is excited for the season: “I think we have a lot in store for this year, and we can definitely make it to the top if we keep putting in the work”.
His sentiment summarizes the team’s general attitude as players work hard to overcome any obstacles that may stand in their way and make it to the top once again.
