Like many schools, LCDS requires Middle School students to wear a uniform consisting of a white polo shirt and either khaki pants or a kilt.
There are many opinions about the LCDS Middle School uniform – so many that the dress code has become somewhat controversial. Some students like it, while others strongly dislike it.
Samantha C., an 8th grader, said, “I don’t like the dress code at all.”
Another student from the same grade, Abby B., agreed, saying, “Yeah, the uniforms are really annoying.”
Many other students shared similar feelings. Some said that having regulated clothing limits their freedom and makes it harder to express themselves through what they wear.
Not every student feels negatively about the uniform, however. Some actually appreciate it.
“I think that the uniforms aren’t that bad,” said Naomi S., a 7th grader. “It makes it easier in the morning.”
However, Naomi also had some criticism: “I do think it is a little weird that we can’t wear multiple-colored jackets.”
According to the dress code, jackets and hoodies must be white, gray, black, or maroon – aligning with school colors.
“The uniform gives people equality,” said Mr. Bushong, a Middle School science teacher. “Nobody really needs to care about the latest fashion trends… nobody really thinks about that.”
